THE LOST PLOT

Small batch wines for the discerning drinker
Say hello to the class of 2020
This vintage, we're really excited to present our newest addition - the Grampians Shiraz. In true Lost Plot style, Matt has sourced some excellent Shiraz fruit, grown by Garry Rice in Concongella, near the Grampians. It joins our latest Rosé and Roussanne, both made by Matt from fruit grown by Sarah Gough at Box Grove Vineyards in Nagambie, Vic.

2020 Rosé
100% Mourvèdre
Nagambie, Victoria
Taungurung Land
Our 2020 Rosé is 100% Mourvèdre, pretty delicious and dangerously drinkable.
Very pale copper/bronze in colour, it's a harmonious little number with stone fruit, citrus, spice and florals. Lovely notes of raspberry, clingstone peaches and almond mingling together. A lot of aromatics.

Nagambie, Victoriaon Taungurung land.

2020 Roussanne
100% Roussanne
Nagambie, Victoria
Taungurung Land
The Roussanne is a textural, yet clean, white wine that this is great with food.
Bright straw to pale yellow. Lots of spiced pear and yellow peach to begin with almond and lemon zest chiming in. The palate is medium to full, with generous fruit weight and texture. All underpinned by guiding acidity and a lingering finish.
Vineyard: Box Grove Vineyard,
Nagambie, on Taungurung land.

2020 Shiraz
95% Shiraz, 5% Roussanne
Concongella, Victoria
Jardwadjali Land

Bright ruby red, the palate is soft and supple with tightly woven tannins and mellow acidity. Berry compote, baking spices and dried herbs, this wine has been lightly handled to allow the fruit
to shine.

THE WINES
The 2019 vintage, our first vintage with Matt Campbell

2019 Rosé
100% Mourvèdre
Heathcote / Nagambie, Victoria
A cheeky blend from the Merindoc vineyards at Heathcote, with just a touch of Nagambie from Box Grove Vineyards, this is a lovely drinker - to have with food or just on its own.
Enticing and delicate nose of white flowers, citrus zest and passionfruit. This wine is pure and viscous on the palate, with flickers of ripe stone fruit. Well integrated acids and almond and grapefruit rind phenolics keep the wine lifted and fresh.
Vineyard: Merindoc Willoughby Bridge, Heathcote, & Box Grove, Nagambie
Alcohol: 13%
Technical Stuff: You'll find here

2019 Roussanne
100% Roussanne
Nagambie, Victoria
Our Roussanne is sourced from Sarah Gough's Box Grove Vineyard. Textural, yet clean, this is a lovely wine with food.
Bright straw yellow with green tinge. Citrus, pear, honey with some almond and white flowers chiming in, with more almond and lemon curd aromas as the wine opens. The palate is round and textured with just enough breadth before refreshing acidity cleans up the finish. Nice mid weight wine which is fresh and neat, reflecting the slightly earlier pick.
Vineyard: Box Grove Vineyard, Nagambie
Alcohol: 13%
Technical Stuff: You'll find here

2019 SGM
60% Syrah 30% Grenache 10% Mourvèdre
Heathcote, Victoria
We call this one The Heathcote Red - a delicious blend of Syrah and Grenache, with a touch of Mourvèdre, sourced from top and tail vineyards of Merindoc in Heathcote.
The Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre blend is deep garnet red with bright ruby edges. A mixture of red and black fruits on the nose, with background herbal and allspice notes. The palate is initially soft and supple, with a core of black fruit and spice, before transitioning to a dry, savoury finish.

ABOUT
We're about finding great parcels of land that grow beautiful fruit, and turning that fruit into the wines we're proud to add to The Lost Plot stable. In the past this has taken us into the wilds of the Languedoc, France, and around Victoria, Australia.
Our first wines were made in both France and Australia by our founding winemaker, Paul Old (of Les Clos Perdus fame). Trying to make wine on opposite sides of the globe saw Paul hand over the baton in 2018
to the very talented and capable hands of Matt Campbell.
Matt has been making wine since 2005, with his first vintage with Dromana Estate. Since then he's done vintages in France (Les Clos Perdus in Corbières, Le Soula in Roussillon, Domaine Chevrot in Burgundy), started a side project, Mattara Wines, all the while working as Assistant Winemaker at Crittenden Estate, since 2008.
Matt’s first vintage with The Lost Plot brought our 2019 wines - Roussanne, Rosé and the Syrah Grenache Mourvèdre blend, which have all been well received, despite being launched when restaurants and bars had been badly hit by Covid. These wines show Matt’s approach of gentle handling and minimal mucking around to produce wines that keep their acidity and freshness. With savoury styles in mind, Matt has restrained the Australian 'fruit forward' approach, allowing the secondary and tertiary notes to show in these young wines, giving an overall palate roundness and length.
The 2020 vintage has Roussanne and Rosé, and the newest addition to our family - a wonderful Shiraz from fruit grown by Garry Rice in the Grampians.
Matt works with talented growers like Sarah Gough at Box Grove, Nagambie, the Merindoc folk at Heathcote, and Gary Rice in the Grampians, taking that fruit to produce elegant wines that reflect his approach of making wine that is considered and complex, but not complicated.
